The Movimento Turismo del Vino dell’Umbria, MTV for short, is a non-profit associatio founded in 1993. MTV is a regional branch of the Movimento Turismo del Vino (Wine Tourism Movement), a national association that represents a unique formula in the world, capable of encompassing over a thousand of Italy’s best wineries and distilleries, from all of its 20 regions.
The aim of MTV Umbria, is to increase the wine tourism industry which represents a fundamental economic resource for the region’s development.
Initially run by Umbria’s Centre for Food and Agriculture, a Regione Umbria (Regional Council) agency, the Movimento Turismo del Vino Umbria has been chaired, since 2006, by Ernesto Sportoletti, producer and proprietor of the winemaking company Sportoletti, in Spello, Perugia.
Currently the association consists of 62 members: 61 Wineries plus the Co-ordinating Committee for Strade del Vino and Olio dell’Umbria (wine and oil routes of Umbria); a number which is destined to increase given the great interest shown by various Umbrian wineries towards the Movement’s activities.
The structure of the association provides, in addition to the Chair, an Organisational Office which is responsible for receiving members’ subscriptions, collecting fees, promoting and coordinating the various activities of the association and carrying out the association’s bureaucratic and administrative functions.
As far as activities are concerned, the Movimento Turismo del Vino Umbria has taken part in all the initiatives organised and promoted by the National Association annually.
In particular, the work carried out by MTV Umbria, is characterised by a strong spirit of innovation and quality of hospitality through which it aims to enhance the prospects of associate companies and their products. At the same time the regional movement is also becoming a guarantor for the protection of the environment and a promoter of a life-style that puts the visitor at the center of attention. Furthermore, for some time, the Movement has been committed to raising awareness ofresponsible drinking, through a number of initiatives aimed primarily at young people, who, in fact, constitute the most significant part of the audience at MTV events.
To date, all of the 61 wineries subscribed to the regional association have been visited and assessed by a representative of the National Secretariat’s Office, in accordance with the manual otherwise known as “The Ten Commandments of Hospitality” and have been awarded the National Organisation’s Certificate of Service. This certificate constitutes a true guarantee of quality and is synonymous with professionalism and “Accoglienza coi Fiocchi” (First-rate Hospitality). Created by the Wine Tourism Movement and certified by 3A PTA (Umbria Agrofood Technology Park), the Decalogue is a unique project of its kind and offers a distinctive feature to certified companies whilst at the same time demonstrating their strong commitment to the wine tourist.
