The Saio agricultural estate extends for about 20 hectares, near Assisi, at the foot of the Basilica of St. Francis. The production of the Saio wine, begun in 2005 by the owner, Alfio Mencarelli, is a perfect blend between the historical-cultural nature of the territory and the special attention given to the quality of the products they offer. This is accomplished as a result of the care taken with the work on the vineyard which determines a harmonious combination of flavours, aromas and colours.
For the tourist
Of particular interest is the position of the estate, being placed at the foot of the impressive neo-Gothic Basilica of St. Francis. Within this particularly modern and classic company, there is a wine shop where guided tastings with English, French or German guides are available. The tastings are accompanied by small samples of gastronomic products from the area. They also have their own production of extra virgin olive oil, produced by cold extraction, which allows the organoleptic characteristics of the olive to stay intact.
