The Cotarella Winery was founded in 1979 by the Cotarella brothers, Riccardo and Renzo, both internationally renowned oenologists (wine experts) deeply rooted in the land. One of the objectives of the company was to work to reclaim the ancient vineyards of the area. The land, though abandoned for decades, had for centuries enjoyed a reputation that stemmed from its outstanding wines, many exclusively for the tables of popes and nobility. It all began with much research and selection, with the aim of isolating clones of ancient and delicate micro varieties, which the vineyard had specialized in during the Sixties, and that had almost completely disappeared.
For the tourist
The winery, which is very impressive, is characterized by very high technology and efficiency and by the presence and management of its two internationally renowned enologists, Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella. The presence of the two brothers is a real guarantee for the wine tourist to find high quality wine. Falesco is not only found in Umbria, but it is also a must have in Lazio where they produce another eight fine wines, including the legendary "Est, Est, Est". These wines can be purchased and tasted under the guidance of an expert directly in the winery.
